Web Publishing Crash Course
Smitty has a long history with Saint John’s University and the College of Saint Benedict in Central Minnesota (CSB|SJU). As an alumnus of the schools, he heads back to campus whenever possible to decompress, to connect with (now old) friends, and to check in with current students. Smitty’s Workshop has undertaken numerous creative projects at Saint John’s, including the development and implementation of the Heritage Hall and Alumni Lounge projects on-campus, and is a faithful volunteer with the Saint John’s Alumni Association, the Donald McNeely Center for Entrepreneurship, and recently, the Enactus organization on the campuses.
Smitty’s recent endeavor with the CSB|SJU Enactus team is a collaboration to create a student-run, low-or-no-cost web publishing “agency” (currently dubbed “EarHeart”) and the development and presentation of a Web Publishing Crash Course for students who will put the information to work in their efforts with Enactus and beyond. The 2-hour class provides some vital Web 101 concepts and in-depth learning that would not be covered in the typical liberal arts class load, including:
- Web Publishing Concepts – The Importance of “Telling Your Story” Online
- Internet Survival Skills – Asset and Content Management for SEO and Site Optimization
- Using WordPress – An Overview of WP Functionality
Smitty’s Workshop has always believed that knowledge sharing is an important service that is often omitted in typical web development relationships. We love to see our clients truly taking advantage of the potential of the websites that we build with them – and the results of engaging in Web Publishing in their organizations.
If you’d like to learn more about Web 101 instruction, Web Publishing or WordPress, Smitty can present a Crash Course tailored to your needs – whether it be one-on-one training or presentations to your organization. Email smitty@smittypages.com.
